These are the stuff I like - you may or may not. There
are some interesting things here none the less...
best of the best, Half-life certainly knocked the socks of the first
person shooter community. It received really good reviews from all
the gaming sites, and won most of the 'Game of the Year' awards.
Building on the excellent Quake 2 graphics engine, the Valve programmers
took the code by the scruff of the neck and build it into a very nice
and stable piece of artwork.
suddenly the Quake 2 world interact when you shoot a bullet at the
wall, or when you open wooden crates with the crowbar.
puts Half-life in a class of it's own though, is not only the graphical
marvels, but also the story that pulls you into the gaping wormhole
to another, alien, world. A world so real and full of (artificial)
life, it could easily be mistaken for the real thing. ALL the characters
you run across (friend and foe) have been blessed with a certain amount
of intelligence and group instinct that allow them not only to react
with you, but also with each other.
and try Half-life yourself, and see what the fuss is all about...

We will put the FTP URL here soon.
can rightly be called the instigator of the 3D revolution. It introduces
us to 3D worlds that were previously only dreamt of, albeit it be
a nightmarish dreamworld :) The most recent incarnation of this realm
by id Software, is called
Quake 3 Arena.
name implies, this game is a new direction for the company, by introducing
a deathmatch only gaming style. It is quite a gamble for Mr. Carmack
and the id guys, but what we have seen so far in the first few public
demos, they've hit the nail right on the head.
